I've joined the effort to save the Roberts House in Canonsburg

I have joined the advisory group of the Washington County Cultural Trust, Inc. The WCCT is a group of Canonsburg and Washington County citizens working to save the Roberts House. It is the big stone and brick building across from the old high school auditorium on North Central Avenue. All of the people who graduated from the old high school looked at it everyday.

Well, there was alot we didn't know or remember about it.

It was built on 2 lots deeded by John Canon to John McMillan for a President's House for Jefferson College. John Watson, the first president of Jefferson College lived there in a log cabin. You can still see some of those logs inside. The house later became the vice-President's home, when William Smith lived there. He was also the Greek Professor and president of a Woman's Seminary across the street.

Some of you remember it when Mrs. Croker lived there and gave music lessons. The house is the last remaining building of Jefferson College which closed after the Civil War. It is one of only 2 buildings in Canonsburg on the National Register of Historic Places that is still standing.

The Washington County Cultural Trust, Inc. was formed to save this building. It would be run as a Fine Art Center. As they told be it would be great to have this building saved as an example of Canonsburg's great educational, historical, and cultural past.

This would be a great thing to do for Canonsburg. Donations are tax deductible. If you would like to support the effort you can donate to:

Merry Christmas to all of my fans!

This really is a busy time of the year! I have been performing 4 to 5 days a week since the holiday season started. It has been wonderful to sing the Christmas songs you love. I have been busy trying to get the shopping done. We are going to have a real family Christmas with all of the great food and all of my family at home.

I have a lot of good things planned for you for next year. So keep up with the blog and you will be the first to hear the news.

Most importantly, I want to wish each of you, my fans and friends, a very Merry Christmas and the Happiest and Healthiest of New Years! I look forward to seeing all of you in 2009.

Remembering IV: Bobby and Al Alberts of the Four Aces

I appeared on the Al Alberts Show at Hershey Park. Al Alberts was one of the original Four Aces. He has had quite a career as a TV and radio host. Al's main studio was in Philadelphia when these pictures were taken. I believe he has a radio show in Florida now. As you can see this was an outdoor on location show.

Shawnette's at Marian Manor surprised me with a Birthday Party

I really thought I couldn't be surprised anymore, but the Shawnettes sure did just that.
I was singing, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw this huge cake coming into the room.
I even started leading "Happy Birthday" and said Happy Birthday for who?
They all stunned me when they sang" Happy Birthday to you and pointed to me." Then the big birthday posters came out.
Thank you to all of the Shawnettes!

Senior Expo 2008

I had a great time with the audience at the senior expo. They had a really big turnout.

Remembering 1: The Donnybrooks

As many of you know, I was the lead singer in the Donnybrooks. Here's a picture of us in the early days. That's John Alterio, Frank Trebel,Ken Paige, and me dressed for a performance. My music teacher at South Central Elementary School in Canonsburg, Lou Popiolkowski wrote our 3 charted singles for Calico Records. They were: Everytime We Kiss,

Break The Glass, and Coming Home From School. As you can see, we were young. We had a lot of good times. The group broke up when education and work demands limited our time to perform. We have reunited a few times for very special events. In the picture below, we performed in 2002 for the Canonsburg Bicentennial celebration. The Donnybrooks were honored to be included in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in Sharon, PA in 2002.

My New Single- Canonsburg

I've just started performing my new tribute to my hometown-Canonsburg.
Wherever I go, people always ask about where I live or where I am from. Critics have written," there must be something in the Canonsburg drinking water. Bobby Shawn follows in the tradition that produced Canonsburg's Perry Como, Bobby Vinton, the Four Coins, and many other singers and musicians; who performed in the Pittsburgh area in their early years."
Perry Como and I after my performance
at the Hilton Inn during Adios Week
at the Meadows Race Track
(now called the Meadows Race Track and Casino).

Canonsburg was written for me to honor my hometown. Ken Cisson wrote the song with my collaboration. I introduced Canonsburg to an audience of 5,000+ during my 4th of July performance at Canon-McMillan Stadium. It has become very popular in my shows, and I'm proud to sing about the hometown that I love! Due to requests I hope to have a CD out soon!

Canonsburg Concerts in the Park Show

I was the M.C. and performer at Canonsburg's Concerts in the Park on June 1, 2008. The show is part of Concert Chairman Jean Popp's effort to have well known performers inspire young singers, dancers, and musicians, by performing with them on the show. The show was a great success and I really enjoyed having friends and fellow Canonsburg singers: Jimmy Chapel (who performs on Cruise Ships, in Las Vegas, and now in Florida), and Tom Terling (who has provided the sound and sung at this show for many years, as well as, being a frequent performer at clubs around the area), joining in. The young stars included Dancers from the Vella School, and the All-American Dance School. Music by the group Windcrest, 5 after 8, Dana Calabro, Diane Miller and Kaitlin Descutner. They were great!
